Alverstoke Michaelmas Fayre
Members of the Friends’ committee manned a stall at the very popular Michaelmas Fayre in Alverstoke, Gosport, on Saturday 29 September. The aim was to raise the profile of the Friends and the museum in the local community. As well as members of the public, the stall attracted a number of submariners of all ages, including one serving. Apart from spending some time spinning dits and renewing old acquaintances, a few people showed real interest in joining the Friends, while many more seemed glad to hear about the work of the Friends to preserve what locals see as a unique part of the area’s naval heritage.
The stall also displayed assorted books, gifted to the Friends for disposal, on a wide range of subjects of submarine interest. These went well and the Friends made a small profit after payment of the cost of the pitch rental. More importantly, those present felt that the primary aim to draw attention to the museum and the important part played in it by the Friends was achieved.”
