Submarine VCs at Gallipoli

A Zoom Presentation

Ed: We have been sent this release from the Gallipoli Association via one of our members. The speaker is a retired submariner with whom I served and I suspect the talk will be very enjoyable.

  • Lecture
  • Zoom

Speaker: Russ Timpson

Time: 7:00pm, talk starts at 7:30pm.

The Gallipoli Association zoom talk for November is now scheduled and it’s going to be another winner!

The presentation will cover the role of Royal Navy submariners at Gallipoli. It will describe the actions that led to the awarding of four Victoria Crosses to RN submarine commanders and crews.

As probably the only positive offensive outcome for naval resources during the campaign, the talk will discuss the characters, context and impact of RN submarine operations at Gallipoli.

Russ Timpson, aka ‘Spike’, served for nine years in the submarine service starting in 1980. During this time, he served in HM submarines Sceptre, Spartan and Odin.

Following the RN, he joined the fire service and is now a practicing fire engineer specialising in tall buildings. A career of highs and lows!

Always keen on military history, Russ has been a member of the Gallipoli Association for several years.

If you would like to reserve a place for the talk please email comms officer Warren Smith at the email address below:
