New CEO for the Museum

Sir Philip Jones, NMRN Chairman, writes:
I am delighted to officially announce the appointment of Matthew Sheldon as the new Chief Executive Officer for the National Museum of the Royal Navy.
Matthew brings to the role over 30 years’ museum expertise as a collections specialist and has driven major capital projects and strategic programmes. These have broadened audiences, delivered seven-figure investment and driven record-breaking revenue growth.
He also brings a passion for the story of our Royal Navy, not just its historical significance, but the relevance it still holds today. He has demonstrated, through his career at the NMRN, an aptitude for balancing the needs of a national museum, to share complex and compelling storytelling, whilst also achieving meaningful commercial impact.
This will be crucial as the National Museum seeks to develop a series of strategic projects across its portfolio of sites with major capital investments at Portsmouth and Hartlepool, as well as a comprehensive review of its brand.
Please join me in congratulating Matthew on his appointment.

I look forward to inviting Matthew to the handover to the FAA Museum of the late Captain Ian McKechnie OBE unique Turkish Medal for Bravery at the Scottish Air show Ayr Festival of Flight 6th/7th September. Sir Philip Jones may well be aware of Ian’s aviator exploits. He was also QHM at Faslane.
