HMS TRENCHANT 1994. The day after returning from an operational patrol, we hosted a visited from the Russian Northern Fleet Deputy Commander - Admiral Titarenko. The MEO, an ex Moscow Asst NA, translated. In the sound room, the Admiral surprised me by asking 'what settings do you use when searching for Russian SSBNs', to which I replied 'the right ones'. He later told me he had commanded a Delta IV SSBN, which made me smile as only two weeks earlier we had been . . . . .
