Alongside at Faslane, having an official visit to Stirling. This caused a massive amount of debate and was not popular with many of the ships company as we were transported to and from by bus daily. Lt Poulter as the Torpedo Officer on the left with OEM Oscar Wilde motor room EM, then Lt Cdr Don Mitchell as the 1st Lt, AB (RP3) Sid White, Miss Sterling and two rather grubby but happy stokers, on the left-hand side.

At sea, with the extremely unpopular Courageous brass band having a practise in the J/Rs Mess. Notice the un-PC picture in the background, which was very nicely framed and we had to keep checking the craftmanship. CEA Scott, LCEM Tanton usually known as Tintin, then Lt Cdr Walker, unknown and Sub Lt David Perfect on the RHS.

Ships company of Courageous at Faslane in 1978 mustered on the casing. I have counted them and I believe there are 117 men. Not sure that this would be encouraged now with all this H & S around.

Taken in 1971 at my wedding. Lt Nigel Godwin was the Navigator on Courageous at the time, he later commanded Spartan, building at Barrow, I often wonder what became of him? Of the 12 in the photo, five are now dead, gloomy thought.

Here is a photo of the notorious OTC 147 from 1961. Dick Channon on the far right and me on the far left were the only Executives to pass. Our course officer, Black Miller, is second from the right front row.
The buildings are the wooden shacks at Dolphin in which the course took place. It was a very cold winter and we had one of those cast iron circular coal fired stoves in the middle of the hut which we managed to get glowing red, with much competition to sit near it.

The photo shows all 15, yes 15, CO's in SM1 in January 1976. I seem to recall it was taken just after a CO's Old English breakfast which probably accounts for the happy faces. I can name them all if you get stuck!

After Perisher Breakfast 1971
The photo was taken on the day we were told we has passed the COQC, in 1971 at Faslane - hence Frank Grenier (Teacher) in wing collar having just had our celebration breakfast……. The others are Ron Perks (Canada), Rob Woolridge (Oz) and Gad Manor (Israeli). The young good looking one is me…….

Collingwood S50 Course Photo
This is the Course Photo of my Artificer Apprentice Passing Out Class, S50,in December 1966. I was known as 'Chief Apprentice Fisher', which was a 'Head Boy' role within the Apprentices. Fisher Section was the dedicated section for the Apprentices in HMS Collingwood. I am on the front row, seventh from the right, next to the Commander.
