Particulars of British Submarines 1939

NOTES
1. Names or numbers of submarines are listed in bold type with their builders and dates of completion in ordinary type.

2. Dimensions are overall length, extreme breadth and diameter of pressure hull. Tonnages are full load displacement
on surface and submerged.

GLOSSARY OF TERMS
Main Ballast Tanks. (Used to submerge the
    submarine).
Auxiliary Ballast Tanks. (Used to trim or adjust
    weight of submarine).
Torpedo Tube Tanks. (For filling and emptying
    tubes).
Oil Fuel Tanks. (Filled with sea water when fuel is
    used).
Scale – Thirty-two feet to the inch.
