1. Wuchang was an old river steamer that had escaped from Singapore and Plancius was a Dutch liner.
2. A converted liner.

4. The identity of this ship has not been established from post war records.
5. The operation and loss of Grenadier in the Malacca Strait is fully described in Roscoe ‘United States

Submarine Operations in WWII’ but how she came to be there is glossed over. Much of the negotiations etc described above is therefore assumed and has no firm historical backing.
6. Trident’s patrols in the Mediterranean are described in Chapter XX but come chronologically before her patrols in the Far East.
