Please…there will be alternative designs ???
Lloyd – this is the design for this year.
I’d be interested to know what this design is trying to say; I’ve tried to work it out but …
Andy, The design was donated by Andy Tuohy who had been working with Eric Thompson on a small project. The name came from a spoof story that Eric Thompson wrote about a SM that was designed to covertly deliver presents to SSBNs on patrol at Christmas. I considered including the story on the cover of the card but it was a bit long. In hindsight a précis might have explained the design better. Any suggestions as to appropriate designs for next year gladly received.
Thank you for the explanation. It’s a great spoof story and I agree that a précis would have helped. I don’t envy the task of choosing a design. When I was in GRAMPUS we had a leading hand who was a brilliant cartoonist … can’t think of his name (LS Bright perhaps?); his cartoons always included a cockroach somewhere; I wonder if any of his card designs found their way into the museum archives because he drew some excellent Xmas cards back in the early 70s. Best, Andy
