Museum Garden off Remembrance – Update

The Friends’ project to turn the Area of Remembrance into a Garden of Remembrance is coming to fruition. Although still a ‘work in progress’, you can see from these pictures that specially designed planters (to cope with the sloping ground) are in place and are being filled with four species of rosemary to symbolise ‘Remembrance’. Andrew, son of Captain Morley Stephens Royal Navy (Deceased) and designer of the Garden, is assisted by Roger in planting climbing honeysuckle and climbing roses, Rear Admiral Frank Grenier’s Cold War Memorial has been rotated through ninety degrees to face the exit door from the museum that bears his engraving of poppies, also a symbol of Remembrance.

The aim of this work is to create an area of quiet where those Submariners who have made the ultimate sacrifice can be remembered in quiet contemplation.
